Jimmy Fallon kicked off SNL with an epic dance party.

With the help of musical guest Harry Styles, Jimmy paid tribute to the great David Bowie by gathering the audience and dancing around Studio 8H. You can watch his "Let's Dance" monologue above.

Though he left the full-time cast all the way back in 2004, Fallon has been a frequent contributor to the program since his exit. Saturday's hosting gig marked the third time he's been at the helm, and he has made a number of notable appearances in the years since he left. Fallon even retook his spot behind the "Weekend Update" desk alongside Tina Fey in a well-publicized cameo in 2016:

The current host of The Tonight Show was an integral part of SNL in the early 2000s. Aside from his prominent role as the "Weekend Update" co-host, Fallon earned rave reviews for impressions of Barry Gibb, Pat O'Brien, and many others, while his propensity to break character—typically a no-no on SNL—helped earn him legions of fans.

Fallon's return to the SNL stage was part of a monumental night for the program, which aired simultaneously across different time zones for the first time in history. The significance of this event was not lost on the long-time cast member, who promoted the landmark episode on Twitter in the week leading up to its release:

SNL is LIVE this Saturday - coast to coast for the 1st time EVER! And now - Canada is joining the party!!! #FallonStylesSNL pic.twitter.com/LdhE8k9T0Z
