The newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made history today when he appointed an equal proportion of men and women to his his cabinet.

When Trudeau was asked why he chose to name 15 women and 15 men to the cabinet, he gave an answer that made it clear how ridiculous the political gender gap is in the first place, according to the CBC.

"Because it's 2015," Trudeau said. ... A cheer went up in the crowd gathered outside of Rideau Hall.

According to NBC News, the move means that Canada is now tied for third with France and Liechtenstein in terms of global gender parity at the top table of government. The world's best are Finland, with 10 women among its 16 ministers, followed by Sweden and Cape Verde.

The United States has three women cabinet members (out of 15) under the Obama administration: Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell, and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker.
