The idea of MacGruber 2 has been teased for years with little in the way of concrete details. There's been talks of outlines and scripts but no firm commitment to production. At least publicly.
It turns out MacGruber 2 is already done filming. Will Forte confirmed the news at the premiere for his new series The Last Man on Earth. "In a couple weeks, when postproduction is over, I’m gonna get in there," he said about the film hitting theaters.
That's all he had to say about the sequel, but now we know to look out for it sooner than later. How the entire movie went through filming without anyone finding out is beyond us. That's some next level secrecy.
In other Will Forte news, the former SNL star appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers last night. The host aired a short clip of Forte in character as Hamilton giving an outrageous speech at Meyers' wedding. Apparently the 30-second clip was taken from a raunchy, six-minute monologue that we need to see in its entirety.
