Leonardo DiCaprio has played several Oscar-worthy roles, but that little golden statue still eludes him. For his next Best Actor bid, he'll be playing not one but 24 roles in The Crowded Room. It's the real-life story of Billy Milligan, who was the first to use multiple personalities as a court defense; he was found not guilty by reason of insanity of a robbery and two rapes in Ohio in the 1970s.

DiCaprio's production company is spearheading the project, which he's eyed since at least 1997, along with writers Jason Smilovic and Todd Katzberg. They're adapting the script from Daniel Keyes' 1981 book about Milligan's 24 personalities, two of which he claimed committed the crimes without his knowledge. Milligan died last year at age 59.
