Sylvester Stallone doesn’t always make the most inspired of choices when it comes to his cinematic roles, but this sure sounds like one right up his alley.

Sly is slated to star as real-life hitman Gregory Scarpa in Scarpa, a film from The Lincoln Lawyer’s Brad Furman. Scarpa was known as “The Grim Reaper” in his heyday, clearly one of the most badass but terrifying nicknames one could assign to a hitman. He admitted to killing over 50 people during his employment with the Colombo family, but later turned into an FBI informant and helped solve the famous “Mississippi Burning” case.

Stallone was basically born to play the role of a brooding, low-talking ex-bad guy who is just trying to make amends. He sort of is doing that in The Expendables 3 (due out August 15), but it sounds like here to focus will be less on the killing and more on the redemption.
