With today’s big announcement that Rian Johnson is going to be writing and directing Star Wars: Episode VIII (and maybe Episode IX as well), the world has been waiting for him to respond. Just a little while ago, he did:
An apt message, we think. Johnson’s clearly got a good sense of humor, so this is a good start.
Also, should we have known Johnson was directing all along? On May 23, he had this exchange on Twitter with Gary Whitta, who had just been named a writer on one of the Star Warsspinoffs:
Fans of BreakingBad will recognize that image as when Hank jokingly accuses Walter of knowing about the murder of Walt's fellow meth cook Gale Boetticher (which of course, he did), and Walt jokingly puts his hands up and says “you got me.” You can see the scene here and Hank’s callback to it from the Season 5 finale here.
If we really thought about it at the time, that was clearly Johnson saying “Yeah, right…no, seriously, you’re right.” Ah, hindsight.
