According to TV Line, Luke Grimes will be exiting HBO’s True Blood, due to creative differences over the direction of his character in the series’ seventh, and final, season. Apparently Grimes read the upcoming scripts for the show and asked to be released from his contract after seeing where his character, James, was heading.
A source close to the situation said, “He initially joined the show because he wanted to work with [his Forever co-star] Deborah Ann Woll. But when he started reading the scripts for Season 7, he was disappointed to learn that they were going in a completely different direction with James.”
When asked to comment, a spokesperson for HBO told the site, “The role of James is being recast due to the creative direction of the character.”
It’s rare that a creative difference leads to such a sudden departure, but Grimes also has commitments to the upcoming adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey, so it is possible that played a role in his decision as well.
True Blood begins its last season in June 2014.
