It's true that the industrial revolution was over by the 1890s, but it was still far easier to find artisanal products, and you didn't have to pay today's artisanal prices. Whether homemakers were stitching pants or children were burning their hands making soap, if you looked hard enough, you could find artisanal goods. Back then, you only needed to look at a laborer's hands and see a missing finger to know that the goods you were buying were authentically made in-house.
