No child was ever satisfied with their family's cable. If you didn't have cable, you wanted cable. Once you got cable, you wanted more channels. One you got more channels, you wanted subscription channels. All of a sudden, we found ourselves in our current 700 channel world. Back in the day, the coolest kids watched the most adult programming, and the most adult programming was on premium cable. The kids who were stuck with the four networks and PBS never stood a chance. If you could watch South Park while your contemporaries were still watching Wishbone, you were one step closer to commanding the schoolyard.
