Space Elevator Project Seeks Backing On Kickstarter

Hopefully it'll have good elevator music.

LiftPort, the company that holds the record for the world's tallest elevator, is looking to make history with its newest project, the Lunar Space Elevator. The elevator will connect Earth to the Moon using a satellite as a rendezvous point. In the above video, LiftPort founder, Michael Laine, explains how and why the project could work. To help finance the project LiftPort turned to Kickstarter, seeking a paltry $8,000. The project has raised over $31,000 with 15 days left to pledge. The project will begin with an $1 million study and the construction of a two kilometer elevator here on Earth.

Do you think this is vaporware? Or do you think Michael Laine can really pull this off? More importantly, would you take an elevator to the moon?
