2012 has been the year of the comic book movie. The Avengers has already made over $600 million in the U.S. alone, is en route to becoming the third highest grossing movie of all time, and we’re not even halfway through the superhero renaissance yet. This week marks the release of The Amazing Spider-Man—a brand-new reboot of the beloved franchise. With Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and the gorgeous Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, the movie is looking to breathe new life into one of Hollywood’s most successful series.

However, Spider-Man won’t have an easy time being crowned the champion at the box office because, in just a few weeks, Warner Bros. is releasing The Dark Knight Rises, the final installment of Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster Batman trilogy. With Christian Bale as Batman and the ultra-sexy Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, it will be one of the biggest hits of the year.

To celebrate the release of these two milestone movies, we looked back at the timeline of these two characters and the girlfriends they've scored along the way. Which ones were the sexiest? Which ones were the most dangerous? We're highlighting the best of the best in our aptly-titled infographic: A History of Spider-Man and Batman's Hottest Girlfriends.
