It looks like Rihanna is still majorly keyed into the politics of her home country, Barbados. On Friday night, she took to Instagram to congratulate the new prime minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, who just happens to be the country's first woman prime minister.
Rihanna wrote, “Say hello to my new prime minister and most importantly the FIRST FEMALE prime minister of Barbados... the honorable Prime Minister @mamottley 🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧🇧💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💝💝💝💝 well deserved and about time! breaking barriers and making history in so many ways!!! Congratulations 😍 💅🏾”
According to Huffington Post, Mottley won in a landslide victory and is only the eighth prime minister to lead Barbados since 1966, the year the country attained independence from Great Britain. Mottley has also held an office in Barbadian government for almost 30 years.
Rihanna has also had a whirlwind of a year, so far. She released her lingerie line, Savage x Fenty, and graced the cover of Vogue, where she revealed that she and Drake now “don’t have a friendship,” and that her next album will be a full-on reggae album. She also co-hosted this year’s Met Gala.
While the singer was away at the Met Gala, a man trespassed onto Rihanna’s property and allegedly stayed the night before he was tased and arrested by police. He was subsequently charged with multiple felonies, including first-degree residential burglary, vandalism, and stalking.
