Anderson .Paak got his big break when he appeared all over Dr. Dre's 2015 album, Compton, essentially stealing the show whenever he popped up. His voice appeared on six tracks, giving him the push to really kickstart his solo career the next year with his second studio album, Malibu. Now that he's gearing up to release the follow-up to Malibu, .Paak sat down with Hot 97 to discuss his future, as well as his career so far.

.Paak discussed the pivotal moments that led to his working relationship with Dr. Dre. He was dismissive at first, likely because he was in disbelief. "I got a call from my manager and he was like, 'Yo, Dre wants you to pull up,'" he explained. "I was like, 'Yeah right, whatever, man, holler at me.'"

"I went over there, I went to Record One, and I walked in the first people I meet was Dre and D.O.C.," .Paak said. "They was watching the playoffs....Both of them are just like, tall as fuck, and I was like, 'Wow, what's up man?'" After their first day working together in the studio, .Paak said it was clear how well they worked together, and he was there pretty much every day until production on the album wrapped.

Anderson .Paak also spoke about Dre's recent appearance on stage with him at Coachella, which he said was a surprise. "I worked with Dre and stuff in the studio, but for him to come out...he ain't coming out like that for nobody. This is crazy." Watch the rest of the interview above. The Dre comments start at the 7:20 mark.
