Los Angles-based artist Kadhja Bonet is a singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist with a sharp ear for making alluring music. Today she returns with the second song off her forthcoming sophomore album, Childqueen. Her latest single "Delphine" is instantly spellbinding.
The production of "Delphine" builds slowly, but surely—adding to the intensity of the record. Bonet's vocals are simultaneously breathy and strong. The combination is captivating work perfectly as the rhythm spirals further into its mesmerizing elements.
However, this hypnotizing single isn't mean to seduce but instead emulate Bonet drifting away from a situation. "'Delphine' is a song I wrote when I wanted to break up with someone," Kadhja explains "but I struggled to do so because I had too much empathy for them. So instead I write it from their perspective. I have been Delphine, and I have sung to Delphine, many times throughout my life."
Bonet's forthcoming Childqueen album is set to be released on June 8 by Fat Possum in partnership with Anderson .Paak’s label OBE. The album was completely written, played, produced and mixed by Bonet herself, and draws inspiration from each of the cities around the globe where she recorded. Bonet admits finishing this album "crushed my ego, and I’m surprised I’m still alive." She's given her all for this body of work, and that faact can already be heard from her latest single.
