Diplo is feeling the wrath of Swifties—once again.
On Saturday night, several gossip sites began sharing excerpts from what appears to be the DJ’s recent interview with Rolling Stone for its November issue. The Q&A piece, which is expected to appear in the upcoming print edition, addresses everything from his rumored Mark Ronson collaboration and Drake’s creative methods to Twitter attacks and the new generation of rappers. However, there was one part of the leaked interview that’s generated a lot of hate on social media, particularly from Taylor Swift fans.
As you can see in the images obtained by Pop Crave and Perez Hilton, Diplo strongly believes the “Call It What You Want” singer is no longer relevant amongst the youth.
“Music is in the hands of the kids. Streaming is literally what kids want to listen to over and over again. They want to listen to ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Bodak Yellow.’ They don't want to listen to, like, ‘Look What You Made Me Do,’” he said when asked about the effects of music streaming. “That music doesn't relate to them at all. I don't think it ever did. They were only given that by radio and marketing budgets. I'm impressed with Post Malone. I can relate to him more than Taylor Swift.”
The man sounds salty.
Even if you’re not a Swift fan, you can’t deny the singer is one of the most successful and popular artists today. Her upcoming sixth studio album Reputation is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Though the lead single “Look What You Made Me Do” received polarized reviews, it eventually hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went on to break multiple records.
Naturally, Swifties came to the singer’s defense:
This isn’t the first time Diplo has blasted Swift. Back in 2014, the DJ tweeted: “someone should make a kickstarter to get Taylor Swift a booty.” It was a post he said he later regretted.
“All I know is, don't ever get into a feud with Taylor Swift,” he told British GQ in 2015. “She has like fifty million people that will die for her. It's like an army that's worse than North Korea. You can't step into that arena. That was something I was never prepared for.”
He apparently didn’t learn his lesson.
Complex has reached out to Diplo’s team regarding the alleged interview leak.
