Seattle-based hip-hop artist Dave B has become a leading voice for The Town over the last few years, with Punch Drunk and Tomorrow showcasing his relatable lyricism and ear for melody. He'll look to keep that momentum going with Pearl.
The project's lead release, "Sweetest Thing," highlights a girl in Dave B's life who's got a hold of his heart, and he's not afraid to let her know his true feelings. The record was in part influenced by Elan Wright, a close collaborator and producer who recently tied the knot. "With Elan getting married at the end of the summer, I was inspired to write about that deep, timeless kind of love," he explains. "What does it feel like to have a soulmate? That love must be the sweetest thing that you’ve ever known."
Producers Nima Skeemz and Darius Rios round out the team that helped bring Pearl to life, and according to Dave B, their journey of creating it had its share of bumps in the road, but they saw it through despite the setback.
"It’s been a long journey making this album. So Elan, Nimon, Darius, and I pretty much created the whole project. Then I lost my laptop with everything and we had to start again from scratch. We locked ourselves in the studio and with no time that summer to hit the beach, we created feel-good music that took us there. And after all that, the end product is this luminous Pearl... it started off as a grain of sand and transcended into a beautiful, rare gem."
