J.U.S.T.I.C.E League is calling out Chance the Rapper ... once again.
On Saturday afternoon, a member of the production team sent out a series of tweets that accused Chance of using their work without paying. J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League made the same claims last summer when they announced the Chicago rapper had featured one of their producer’s beats on the 2013 mixtape Acid Rap.
JL’s Rook discussed the matter during a 2016 interview with DJ Pain 1. He said Chance’s team had asked to use the track as well as the League’s tag in order to give the project a boost.
“They really, really wanted our tag and our credit on the mixtape. And we’re like, ‘OK no problem, just pay us,” Rook explained. “It wasn’t even that much. It was maybe like five grand or something like that.”
He said the beat was eventually used without their permission, and the team never received compensation, a shout-out, or even a thank-you.
Well, it seems the issue has yet to be resolved. One of the JL members continued to blast Chance on social media, questioning his character, business ethics, and role as a father.
It seems the League was triggered by Chance’s recent efforts to save SoundCloud, a website that played a huge part in the rapper’s success. The tweets suggested Chance had used the SoundCloud platform in order to cheat producers out of royalties.
The JL member also said he spoke to Chance on the phone, presumably sometime during the tweet storm.
Chance went to Twitter to confirm the conversation, but he denied owing any money.
