Nicki Minaj just announced the name and release date of her new project on Twitter, and by the sound of it, fans may be getting the old Nicki back. So you Barbs better get ready for Pick My Fruit Out because it’s dropping at midnight...or is it?
“Ok u know what I wasn’t gonna say anything, but damn ya got it out of me. The album drops at midnight. It’s called #PickMyFruit,” the rapper tweeted late Saturday night. For all those who haven’t been riding with Nicki since the beginning, the project seems to be a reference to a line from Nicki’s 2009 single “Itty Bitty Piggy,” during her infamous outro on the track.
Following her initial tweet, Nicki also revealed a track list, but once again, it seemed a little suspect. Each song wasnamed after fruit, including mango, cherry, watermelon, and bananas. “The one I’m most excited about, however, is track #!0. It’s called Ni**a toss my fruit salad and it features my favorite rapper of all time,” Nicki said.
As expected, fans have erupted in a bit of a frenzy in anticipation for the project possible debut. Many immediately took to Twitter, trolling the rapper with hilarious GIFS and photos. Some fans also concluded that her single, “Bananas” was a tribute to Harambe, the gorilla who was killed at the Cincinnati Zoo.
Only one month ago, Nicki dropped “The Pinkprint Freestyle,” which featured her rapping over Young M.A.'s "OOOUUU." Although it’s been two years since the MC dropped her 2014 record, The Pinkprint, Nicki has kept her name active, appearing on DJ Khaled’s recent Major Key album, DJ Mustard’s Cold Summer project, and featured on a well-received single with Ariana Grande, “Side to Side.”
It is a little unclear if this new project will take the form of a full studio album, mixtape or its just another instance of her trolling, seeing how the Trini rapper previously told Billboardthat she would definitely drop a mixtape in the future. East Coasters, we'll just have to wait until midnight to see if she's serious or not.
