Solange was the surprise guest at Bessie's 81 Theater Tour last night in Los Angeles, which celebrates HBO's new film Bessie, based on the legendary blues singer Bessie Smith. During her performance, she debuted a new song titled "Rise," which she says was inspired by protests in Baltimore and Ferguson, and recent societal issues and police violence. There's no word yet if it'll be on her next album, as she's stayed relatively lowkey since her True EP. Bessie premieres on HBO this weekend, and stars Queen Latifah.
