Congratulations are in order for Kendrick Lamar, as his second major label release, To Pimp A Butterfly, just officially went gold. After already scoring the first number one album with "Pimp" in its title, the critically acclaimed album has now sold over 519,000 copies and is currently sitting at number seven on the charts. There has been a considerable amount of fanfare around the full length, including a number of high profile interviews and even a mobile concert through Downtown Los Angeles. It has been heralded as one of the most important albums of this year, which makes this news not so shocking. However, Kendrick going gold is a major achievement and definitely deserved, so we salute him. He is the eighth artist this year to sell half a million records, a number that hasn't been reached this fast since 2010.
