It appears that the controversial, delayed Lifetime Aaliyah biopic finally gets an official release date. In an announcement via Twitter today, the network revealed that Aaliyah: Princess of R&B is set to air on Saturday, Nov. 15. Disney star Zendaya was originally slated to play the late R&B singer, but pulled out of the project due to overwhelming public criticism of her casting. She was eventually replaced by Nickelodeon star Alexandra Shipp in the film around the same time that Wendy Williams was announced as an executive producer.

Aaliyah's family has been passionate about fighting the making of the film since its inception, and has been adamant about blocking any attempt to use her music in the film. The family thinks the TV film, which is based on Christopher Farley's biography, Aaliyah: More Than a Woman, is too small for a star like Aaliyah.
