It's a familiar cycle: young kid joins a boyband, becomes a teen heartthrob, band breaks up, kid gets a new look, and tries the solo route. Very few artists have been able to rise above their gimmicky pasts—and whether or not you loved N'Sync or Jonas Brothers or Backstreet Boys as a kid, you know the initial struggle to take anyone seriously as a solo artist is hard.

For those who don't know, the Jonas Brothers broke up in October, and the youngest of the trio, Nick Jonas, is starting fresh and going the solo route. He's reportedly starring in DirecTV’s mixed martial arts drama Kingdom, he's now signed to Island Records, and is prepping a ton of new music, which he's teased on his Instagram. Today, we're premiering his new Jason Evigan-produced song called “Chains."

“Everyone has their own chains, in life and in love, that bind them and this song embodies that feeling,” he said in an email. “I’m excited to be back to share this song with the world.”
