DJ Marfox is one of the figureheads of an explosive underground club scene building momentum in Lisbon's suburban outskirts. He found his way to NYC's Lit City Trax and is gearing up to release a brand new EP Lucky Punch via the grime and footwork-obsessed label on Tuesday.

Lit City has a way of scouring the globe, or perhaps The Internet for musicians who balance their own distinct global traditions with fast-paced, urban dance music. The unifying thread is that the label's releases are almost impossible to categorize and even more impossible not to move to. Recent signee, Marfox's sound is a frenetic and Western house-influenced genesis of Angola's kuduro that began to spread in the '80s. Selecting elements of the tarraxhina, grime, and even '90s R&B you're likely to hear at one of Lisbon's ad hoc parties on any given night, the only limitation Marfox puts on his music is its originality. His latest track "Banda 52," is a perfect introduction to his blend of rapid, synchopated beats, bold use of synth and tight, driving percussion.

Lucky Punch is dropping May 27 on Lit City Trax. Stream "Banda 52" below.
