Maya Angelou passed away at the age of 86 today. She wore many hats during her time: Poet, author, actress, scholar, civil rights activist. Maya Angelou was a source of inspiration for many people, including many musicians. Common featured her on a record. Lil Wayne, Talib Kweli, and Kanye West referenced her in their music. One of Gucci Mane's album titles referenced Angelou's 1969 autobiography, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
It should come as no surprise then that dozens of rappers, singers, and producers displayed their admiration for Angelou earlier today on social media. Some wrote touching notes to describe their appreciation, while others quoted Angelou to pay their respects. In every instance, they celebrated her legacy and influence.
