Last night at SXSW, Jay Z and Kanye West performed together for the first time since the Watch the Throne Tour in 2012 at a show for Samsung Galaxy owners (who also use the Music Milk app). They revived the tour's stage setup, from the illuminated boxes to Kanye's kilt and ran through a score of hits, both their own and collaborative, but no new music.
While Hov and Ye taking over Austin as a duo is news enough, Stereogum points out (via ABC) that their Samsung-sponsored show was in direct competition with Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q's dual performance at the iTunes Festival. At a recent Yeezus Tour date, Kanye called out Apple CEO Tim Cook, saying, "Stop trying to get performers to play your festival for free, you are rich as fuck."
Another corporate badger, Tyler, The Creator, was in attendance. Earlier that evening, his performance as Austin venue Mohawk was canceled after a fatal hit and run outside of the show.
Watch performances of "H.A.M.," "Otis," "What You Need," "Run This Town," "Clique," "99 Problems," and "Niggas in Paris" (which they only performed three times) below.
