Pete "DJ" Jones has passed away yesterday. Jones was a renowned DJ who was known for throwing parties during the 1970s and 1980s in The Bronx. He has been cited by legends such as Kurtis Blow and Grandmaster Flash as one of the first DJs they saw using two turntables and spinning two copies of the same record, important in mixing and scratching that would soon follow. He also was known for his DJ battles with one of hip-hop's early pioneers, Kool Herc. At the time of his death, Jones was 79.
