Jay-Z's upcoming Magna Carta Holy Grail certainly had an interesting introduction to the world, via Samsung commercials that documented studio sessions with various super-producers, including Swizz Beatz. Though the commercials are well composed and produced, Swizz confirms that they were indeed candid shots, and that they were just working while the cameras rolled.

When asked about Jay's choice to release a million albums to Samsung users for free, and whether or not the counting of record sales even mattered any more, Swizz sort of shrugged and replied: "Look man, he was being innovative. Some people, they can't relate to innovation. It's his album. He can do what he wants to do. He's earned the rights to do whatever he wants to do. He's put enough time in this game, with Billboard or any other outlet."

In this case, at least, the new rules are being written by someone who has already conquered the old ones.
