As you’ve probably heard by now, last night was an interesting one for Lupe Fiasco. The Chicago rapper was performing at Hamilton Live in Washington, D.C. as part of President Obama’s inauguration celebration. According to Foreign Policy’s Josh Rogin, Lupe “got thrown off stage… after he went on an anti-Obama diatribe mid-set.”

Now, at last, the event’s organizers, StartUp RockOn, have chimed in with their side of the story. Here’s what they had to say:

“Lupe Fiasco was not ‘kicked off stage’ for an ‘anti-Obama rant.’ We are staunch supporters of free speech, and free political speech. This was not about his opinions. Instead, after a bizarrely repetitive, jarring performance that left the crowd vocally dissatisfied, organizers decided to move on to the next act.”
