This cover was 7L & Esoteric's A New Dope album cover SIX years ago.
crypkeeper666 January 23rd, 2012 at 06:06 PM
stealing 7l & esoteric's "a new dope" cover circa '06, @babygrande gonna sue yall lol
art fan. January 25th, 2012 at 12:05 PM
the cover was the flyer for Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol's collaboration show in 1985. way before six years ago. 7L took it from them, and it is a terrible 'homage'. JMB and Warhol are two of the most important artists of the 20th century.

I get it that they jacked A New Dope cover from 7L & Esoteric (remake of Andy Warhol piece done by Karma at Brick Records) but why did he take the moniker already used by Aesop Rock???
Badd Idea January 24th, 2012 at 03:34 AM
Because he's a biter!
RealTalkHarlem January 25th, 2012 at 01:08 PM

http://40versions.files.wordpress.com/2006/07/a-new-dope.jpg Look at that picture, its from 7l & Esoteric album "A New Dope" released in 2006... Where did ya get the theme cover idea from?
el producto January 23rd, 2012 at 11:56 PM
so basically, it's something like this: -wanna be soulja boy rapper -heard of the writer Aesop, decided to name himself Aesop Rock ----however, realizes that Aesop Rock is already taken ----decides to add a y at the end of his name, thus calling himself Aesop Rocky OR -heard of Aesop Rock and wanted to pay homage to a legendary underground rapper, and therefore, called himself Aesop Rocky -someone in rap, in particular 7L and Esoteric, already sampled that image from Andy Warhol for their own cover ---Aesop Rocky and the geniuses at Complex decide to sample it as well so in general, Aesop Rocky is as fake as it fuckin gets

Aesop is a poet. A.$.A.P. is a crew. Get money As $oon As Possible. 7L and Eso bit off of/payed homage to Warhol and Basquiat. The Complex cover is paying homage/biting off Warhol and Basquiat. Jeremy Scott is Warhol on the fashion type and ASAP is the new artist on the come up who is also a fan of Scott. Are underground, indie cats that only die hard fans care about the only ones allowed to bite Warhol and Basquiat????
yo January 24th, 2012 at 02:38 PM
who the fuck is jeremy scott anyway?
JohnDillinger January 25th, 2012 at 02:03 AM
Rocky's birth name is Rakim. A.S.A.P (Always Strive And Prosper) is an uptown crew. The Warhol Basquiat bit has been done by everybody. Don't worry nig, I know a crew ready for you to lead its called MMA$H (Make money and stop hating).
Badd Idea January 24th, 2012 at 03:33 AM
This cover is a straight up robbery off 7L & Esoteric's 'A New Dope' album cover. Did you even reference where the idea came from or just straight bite it????
nar January 24th, 2012 at 12:09 PM
Originally a Warhol, Basquait poster.... 7l and esoteric got their concept from them, but there's no reason for Complex to regurgitate it six years after.... pretty weak....
hype January 24th, 2012 at 04:51 PM
Eso is corny tho. who cares about that album? i doubt whoever came up with this cover thought about that album before the warhol/basquiat piece. ya underground heads kill me.
maste January 24th, 2012 at 05:37 PM
7l & eso brought that sound in '06, then made a collabo with gary numan, then walked away from it before anybody was even close to that sound, now it is the new shit LMAO
