Sloppy Seconds: Music's Most Disappointing Sophomore Albums

Meat Loaf

Meat Loaf Dead Ringer (1981)
DEBUT HYPE: Co-writer Jim Steinman once said of 1977's Bat Out Of Hell, "You could release that record at any time and it would be out of place," but it's sold over 40 million worldwide and continues to sell approximately 200K + copies per year.
SOPHOMORE SLUMP: Bat Out Of Hell's success and ensuing tour almost ruined Meat Loaf to the point that 1981's Dead Ringer was recorded as the 2nd of two albums Steinman had written for the singer, and sounded duly 2nd rate.
WORST SONG: "Read Em & Weep"
