A petition calling on the electoral college to rebel against Donald Trump and instead elect Hillary Clinton president when the college officially casts their votes on Dec. 19 is now the most popular petition ever to be created on Change.org, a popular site for gathering e-signatures for petitions. The petition now has more than 4.6 million signatures, which is 2 million signatures more than the next most popular petition.

If the number "more than 2 million" sounds familiar, by the way, it's probably because that's how many more votes Hillary Clinton won versus Donald Trump in the popular election.

The petition, entitled "Electoral College: Make Hillary Clinton President on December 19," calls on the college's members to vote for Clinton, who won the popular vote handily on Nov. 8. A part of the petition reads:

We are calling on the 149 Electors in those states to ignore their states' votes and cast their ballots for Secretary Clinton. Why?

Change.org was founded in 2007, and until the petition to the electoral college, the most popular petition on the site was one to stop China's Yulin Dog Meat festival. This petition was started three years ago and has more than 2.6 million signatures.
