Kansas Cops Remind Everyone Not to Call 911 Just Because They Hate a Candidate

Folks in Kansas needed to rant about politics so bad they called 911.

Police in Lawrence, Kan. had their hands full before the debate last night, not because of any civil unrest, but because citizens were calling 911 to rant about politics. Local CBS affiliate WTKR reports that the Lawrence Police Department received enough calls from local residents who wanted to rail on the presidential candidates that they had to remind people what 911 is actually supposed to be used for (hint: not being mad about the election).

In a tweet sent out hours before the debate began, the Lawrence PD tweeted, "We realize politics can make emotions run high, but being mad at a presidential candidate in a debate is NOT a reason to call 911."

REMINDER
We realize politics can make emotions run high, but being mad at a presidential candidate in a debate is NOT a reason to call 911.

The word "reminder" in all caps at the beginning leads one to believe that law enforcement in Lawrence have seen this kind of behavior before...

I worked in 911 for 13 years & I can assure you it is a thing people do, among other BS they call 911 for. 😒

The tweet went viral, with more than 30,000 likes and over 25,000 re-tweets in under 34 hours.

The Lawrence PD Twitter account followed up with another warning about debate night drinking games:

Additionally, drinking games where you drink every time someone says "yuge" leads to binge drinking, and we discourage that strongly

WTKR reports that it wasn't clear what exactly angry callers were hoping the police could do for them.
