When it comes to dog appreciation, most of the time we're stopping people on the street and fawning over their adorable pets. But there's one day of the year dedicated to the strange charm of supremely hideous dogs—the World's Ugliest Dog Contest. While there was no shortage of ugly talent at this year's competition, there was one unsightly Chihuahua that stole everyone's hearts: Sweepee Rambo, the world's ugliest dog.

The 17-year-old Chinese crested Chihuahua is blind in both eyes and weighs only four pounds, which are only a few of the traits that endeared audience members and the panel of judges at the World's Ugliest Dog Contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, Calif. Sweepee Rambo's owner Jason Wurtz, who walked away with $1,500 and a huge trophy, detailed the unattractive dog's "baby-soft freckled skin and legendary blond Mohawk" and called her his "ride or die chick" in his entry to the contest, the New York Timesreports. It looks like audience members carrying signs that said "Sweepee for President" felt the same way.

As far as the other contestants go, bad hair was a major trend in this year's competition. Himisaboo, one dog with a head of hair that looks shockingly similar to Donald Trump's famous comb-over, garnered a lot of attention at the contest. But not enough to beat Sweepee.

The fair's marketing director Karen Spencer explained that the contest, which has been happening for 28 years now, is similar to a basic beauty pageant. Judges dish out points to the ugly contestants based on three criteria: personalities, appearances, and the audience's reaction. Much like a beauty pageant, strict rules are enforced at the World's Ugliest Dog Contest. Owners are prohibited from altering the appearance of their dogs to better their chances at winning, for example. Real ugly doesn't need extra help, apparently.
