While each new day brings a different kind of technology that helps improve lives, we’re still dealing with situations these gadgets play a part in taking lives as well. In China, a 43-year-old woman was found dead in an elevator after being trapped there for a month.

According to Mashable, her body was discovered by the apartment building's maintenance workers. Reports say she became trapped after the power was cut off from the malfunctioning elevator on Jan. 30. Workers left for an extended Chinese New Year break and when they returned on March 1, found the horrific scene before them. The woman is said to have left scratch marks along the walls before succumbing to death by starvation.

Two have been arrested and charged with manslaughter for what is being described as "gross negligence" since they didn’t check to see if anyone was inside before leaving. Police also say the woman lived alone with barely any visitors, and had been suffering from mental illness following a divorce.
