While you might be surprised at how obscure that historical fact is, you might also want to note that it's more celebrated in the United States than it is in Mexico. Then again, we'll gladly adopt any holiday that makes celebratory binge drinking seem acceptable. Don't deny it; you've got an unopened Patron chilling in the freezer, too.

We can pretty much sum up Thalia in two words: global phenomenon. Since her 1997 album Amor a la Mexicana entered the music charts of countries on all continents, Thalia's career has yet to slow down.

A former child star, Anahi (gov't name: Anahi Giovanna Puente Portilla) beat a severe eating disorder to star in the telenovella Rebelde and lead its pop group offshoot RBD. After a nine-year hiatus, she released Mi Delirio in 2009. "Mi Delirio" does not in fact mean "I will pose nude for Mexican Playboy," although we weren't aware of that until after we'd bought 25 copies of that year's October issue.

A triple threat (actress, singer, and songwriter), Dulce Maria started out in the Mexican group K.I.D.S and then parlayed that into a successful acting career. In 2009, she took home the award for People En Espanol's "Best Young Actress on a Soap Opera." Look for her debut album Extranjera in stores now and/or enjoy her latest film Alguien ha visto a Lupita?. We don't know what the title asks, but we're just going to assume it's a sexual proposition.

Kate del Castilo's career took off after she starred in the soap opera Muchachitas. Today, horny stateside dudes endure subtitles to watch her on the TV show La Reina del Sur. Then again, you don't really need to understand what this hot actress is saying: Whatever she says sounds sexy regardless.

This Mexican supermodel began her career on the catwalk after being crowned Miss Mexico World back in 2000. Over ten years later, at almost 30 years old, the leggy brunette is still gracing the pages of numerous magazines and enhancing advertisements, some of which may or may not be currently residing next to our bed.

Martha Higareda jump-started her career by starring in a play called "Bang" (Don't you wish there was some sort of Netflix for plays?), and then did a stint on the Disney Channel's Zapping Zone before moving on to starring roles in a bunch of Mexican movies. She's since crossed over to not-so-impressive American titles, including Street Kings and Smokin' Aces 2. But we'll forgive her poor judgment.

Although we think the rest of these women are hot, Jacqueline Bracamontes is actually one of the few who's certified hot. The actress/model stepped into the spotlight back in the day as the 2000 winner of Nuestra Belleza Mexico, the Mexican equivalent of Miss USA. Although she didn't win Miss Universe in 2001, Bracamontes retired her sash and found success in the television world.

This model/actress gained recognition playing the love interest to the famed sword-wielding graffito in the recent telenovela adaption of Zorro. Most recently, she starred in the series Los herederos del Monte. And in the States, she did a five-episode stint on Ugly Betty. Yes, all Betties look ugly next to her.

The daughter of Mexican actress Susana Dosamantes, Paulina Rubio has sold over 20 million records since starting out singing in a kids' group nearly 30 years ago. She taught a few romantic gringos the only Spanish they know when she released "Don't Say Goodbye (Si Tu Te Vas)" back in 2002. And if you're counting, yes, she's still hot at 39.

The star of Regresa and Eva Luna has done her share of American films, too, including Deep in the Valley and Dinner for Schmucks. OK, so they may not be as deep as the films she does for Latin America, but let's just hope the low standards she has for American cinema matche those she has for American men.

The Cuando me enamoro actress has appeared on a couple of magazine covers; the FHM (Mexico Edition) front-page she was on was the magazine's highest-selling issue in 2007. More importantly, though, nude pictures of her exist online. No, we won't link you to them, but trust us, they're there. And they're spectacular.

To be honest, besides being hot, Daniela's resume is pretty thin (shit, she doesn't even have a Wikipedia). What we do know, though, is that she's a model on the come-up who's been on the cover of Maxim Italy and a few other overseas magazines. Honestly, though, if you care more about her career than how hot she looks, you're probably looking at the wrong list.

With seven new projects in her pipeline (ayo!), you'd think the girl's fame and success would give her a crop of male specimens to choose from. Yet, apparently, Fernanda Romero was arrested last year for marrying a pizza delivery guy for residency in the U.S. and was sentenced to 30 days in jail in order to remain in the country. She should've called us up instead; at least marriage to us would seem a little more plausible.

It seems that any chick who means anything to the Latin American film industry co-starred with Maite Perroni in her debut movie, Rebelde (which included fellow listers Anahi, Ninel Conde, and Dulce Maria). Since then, the cute actress has continued her success by starring in one telenovela after another, the most recent being the hit Triunfo del Amor.

A native of Cancun, Ana Claudia Talancon is a professionally-trained actress who starred in various Mexican soap operas before jumping to the big screen and winning an Ariel Award (Mexican Oscar) for her role in El Cometa. She then came to America, where she appeared in Richard Linklater's Fast Food Nation...as an immigrant named Coco who's forced to work in a meatpacking plant. Fuck. Outta. Here.

Coming in third place in People en Espanol's "Most Beautiful People of 2011" list is a huge honor in a community almost entirely made up of gorgeous faces. Naturally, we can't overlook the current star of the telenovela Teresa.

If Liliana Domnguez looks familiar, it's because you've probably seen her before. The fashion model has been featured in ad campaigns for popular designers such as Oscar De La Renta, Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce & Gabbana, and Roberto Cavalli, just to name a few. Her extensive resume only proves that she's a hot international commodity.

Not only was this O.G. supermodel the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issuecover girl back in 2001, but she's also knocked "Victoria's Secret Angel" off her bucket list. But her beauty isn't only appreciated by those of us with a Y chromosome; Benitez has appeared on numerous high-fashion magazine covers, the first being Italian Vogue back in '96.

We admit it, you made us think blasphemous thoughts about your nun character in Nacho Libre, so now we're looking forward to seeing more of you in Eastbound and Down reruns and this summer's blockbuster Cowboys and Aliens. This busty actress/Latin Grammy-nominated artist's name is actually a synonym for "Oh my friggin' lord she's hot;" at least what we've seen of the MILF throughout her career (especially in Rebelde and Mar de amor) makes us think so.

What's left to say about Eva Longoria? We're all well aware that she's newly single, and that she has a new rebound to cure her loneliness. There's no point in talking her up, so we're just gonna let these pictures speak for themselves.

Who else rightfully deserved to be numero uno but Miss Hayek? If she could make a bearded lady look borderline sexy (twice), we think that's more of a testament to her beauty than Desperado and From Dusk 'til Dawn could ever be, though those are great, as well.
