Even Though it Created Jobs, the Barclays Center Doesn't Offer Health Insurance to Most Employees

Since its grand opening in September, the Barclays Center has created some 2,000 permanent jobs. However, the heavily-subsidized establishment does not offer health insurance benefits to the bulk of its employees.

DNAinfo's Leslie Albrecht unveiled that, of those 2,000 jobs, just 100 are full-time. The remaining employees receive no benefits whatsoever. Forest City Ratner spokesperson Ashley Cotton explained the reasoning at a recent meeting, saying "There are no health benefits because they're part-time employees."

Several people are calling bullshit, especially since "hundreds of millions" of taxpayer dollars were used to subsidize the structure.
