Oh, America the beautiful, your past can be so ugly. Take a look at advertisements from past centuries and you'll find a culture mired in explicit sexism and racism. To be frank, shit is bugged the fuck out. For many years, there was no better baromoter of the Nation's tolerance level than the advertisements for food. How are things for black Americans? Check your box of pancake flour; they aren't good.
Over the years, the imagery has become (for the most part) less obvious, but there are still some shocking ads out there. Take a look at this gallery of 25 racist food advertisements.

Some of these may be racist but it might be worth reading and learning about the history behind these foods to the former slaves and workers on plantations. There's a plantation called Boone Hall Plantation in SC that is more than worth visiting. Go listen to the woman who gives the speeches on Gullah culture. It will make a lot more of this make sense.

Check these Bulgarian waffles, because of their chocolate topping they are named translated from Bulgarian (Cyrillic) "Little Niggar" http://www.ziv.bg/bg/products/65-%D0%BD%D0%B5%D0%B3%D1%8A%D1%80%D1%87%D0%B5 They are selling from quite long time, as you see on their official web site, doesn't matter that racism is prosecuted in Bulgaria, is just like everything else here.

It's unfair to call these ads out individually, as this was back in a time when the USA still prohibited inter-racial relationships in a large number of states, by law. The country should be a lot more embarrassed than the companies in question. Just be thankful times have changed so drastically that you can look back on this with an entirely different point of view.
