CEO and Founder of the Alamo Drafthouse theater chain, Tim League, opened a small T-shirt printing business in 2004 named Mondo. As the Drafthouses became more popular, Mondo became involved in printing Gig Posters for events at the theaters. Soon, the posters became more popular than the tees until the tees became completely irrelevant, and Mondo grew into what it is today. In the words of Chief Operating Officer, Jessica Olsen, Mondo is a company that "specializes in limited edition screen-printed movie posters by contemporary artists."
Mondo releases are to print enthusiasts what Jordan releases are to sneakerheads. Dates and official photos are released through the company and various blogs, but no time frames are given, resulting in hopefuls around the world glued to their computer screens, waiting for that heaven-sent link by way of the @MondoNews Twitter account, manned by Mondo CEO, Justin Ishmael. Then it's off to the races: eternally long 60-second sessions of F5'ing and fumbling to add-to-cart and checkout before it's too late, and you have to pay exponentially more in the resell market.
With a few years under their belts, Mondo has recently opened their own gallery space, which means even more high-quality prints and original artwork from some of the best artists in the world.
