So there's a Spanish town called Borja, where a painting from the 1800s is housed in a church. The painting was comissioned by the church and painted by artist Elias Garcia Martinez.
The fresco wasn't worth much monetarily, but did have a lot of sentimental value for the people in Borja. Which is why an 80-something-year-old lady took it upon herself to surreptitiously restore the painting.
Judging from the above photo, the restoration didn't exactly go as well as she thought it would. Now, the local cultural heritage institution has been contact and professionals are assessing the damage to the fresco. [Buzzfeed]
