PETA Sets Its Cross Hairs On Nintendo and Super Mario 3D Land

It isn’t usually surprising to hear that a video game has worked PETA into a frenzy. We have heard them lose their mind over attack dogs in various Call of Duty games and even the ability to do away with rats in Battlefield 3. What is surprising though is PETA’s latest target: Super Mario 3D Land.

To be more specific, PETA is taking umbrage with one of the gaming industry’s oldest and most beloved power ups: the Tanooki Suit. PETA seems to think that it is an abominations for Mario to wear the fur of any animal, let alone on that is often “beaten and, as PETA's undercover exposés show, often skinned alive for their fur.” By their standards, Nintendo and Mario are simply promoting and glorifying the act of skinning these animals and wearing fur.

PETA has even launched a flash game on their website that depicts Mario flying around wearing the skin of a racoon, still dripping with blood after being taken off of the carcass of the animal. If only this particular version of the suit was available in the real game.
