The Top 10 Games Featuring Members of the Avengers

Fact: Captain America is in the Avengers. Another fact: He's the last major member to get his own movie. He's also the last primary Avenger—minus Ant-Man who gets no respect—to get his own movie-based game. Captain America: Super Soldier comes out July 19. Will it be any good? Given the track record of the other movie-based Avengers games, we ain't gonna hold our breath. But the Avengers games on this list are certified awesome. Excelsior!

Who's X-O Manowar again? He might not be the most popular character in all of comicdom, but it didn't matter because all we came for was Iron Man, and we got him in spades. Jumping around, shooting lasers, blasting away, it's much better than you remember it. While it may not have been the deepest game in the world, it was definitely better than those Godawful Iron Man games based on the movies. Man, talk about train wrecks.

We can't lie. The console versions of Thor are seven different flavors of ass, but this DS version is pretty dope. It's a simple side-scroller that uses both screens to leap to enemies and knock them into the stratosphere. The game doesn't take that much brain power to play and features Thor kicking ass with his hammer, Mjolnir. By Odin's beard! What else could you possibly want?

You can make the argument that its direct sequel, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, is the better title, but we put this game on the list because it didn't exclude our boy, Iron Man. Fighting over gems scattered on the floor—kind of like Power Stone, but nowhere near as chaotic—Marvel's strongest heroes and villains proved to be no match for Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, and Steve Rogers. They didn't stand a chance. Not even Juggernaut. And yeah, we're being serious.

Yes, the Avengers moniker is in the title, but don't expect Thor, Ant Man, or Hulk anywhere in here. Instead, make way for Vision and Hawkeye to round out the Avengers in this four-player arcade beat-em-up. Our favorite parts of the game were the flying sections where Iron Man and Vision flew and Cap Am and Hawkeye had to pilot those stupid looking space chair thingies. It wasn't the most complicated game on the planet, but man was it fun. Damn, we miss the ’90s.

So, yeah, like we said earlier, we like Iron Man and X-O Manowar: Heavy Metal a lot. But this was such a better game it's ridiculous. Iron Man runs like he's a character in the game Sunset Riders running across the bulls, but he's still awesome, jumping and blasting his way through a bunch of fun levels. It's a bit on the short side, but it's all killer and no filler for the man in red and yellow. We. Love. This. Game.

This Capcom fighter could have been higher on the list had Iron Man not been substituted for War Machine. Even so, it's still excellent. Expanding on everything that made its predecessor Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter such a classic, this fighting game is even faster and features Thor and U.S. Agent as special partners. It was the shit, no question.

Featuring all four of the primary Avengers, what we love about this game most is that if you want to, you can have all the Avengers kicking ass side-by-side, mashing their way through hallways and open environments. Sure, there wasn't much to it besides beating bad guys and taking names, but it was a fun party game that featured all of our favorite heroes. We approve.

This was the Incredible Hulk game that we always wanted. Hulk smashed! Hulk smashed real good in this open-world, sandbox classic. What made this game so great was the fact that pretty much everything in it could be destroyed, which is exactly what we wanted in a Hulk game all along—no restraints. Let's see what Joss Whedon does with him in the upcoming Avengers movie. If he's not a raging brute destroying a whole city, we ain't happy.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is like the first MvC... except it's a million times better! It featured every major Avenger and their mama (Except Thor, surprisingly). At the time, MvC2 was the most epic fighting game ever made, but it's still not our pick for the best Avengers game ever...

Yeah, we know, you saw this coming. Featuring all FOUR of the primary Avengers, MvC3 is the total package. The fighting is some of the best in the franchise, the visuals are beautiful, and most of the characters get their own background stages. The only thing missing is Ant Man. Why can't the Pyms get some freaking recognition here, people?
