Report: Facebook For iPhone Update To Deliver Major Speed Boost

Facebook has been hard at work on an update to its popular, if criticized, iPhone app, and the company is laser focused on speed. In a new report in the New York Times, Nick Bilton speaks to two Facebook employees who say an upcoming version of the iOS app will leave the current release in the dust.

That's good news, since one of the chief complaints about the Facebook app is that it takes forever to load anything. The next version of the app was written from the ground up in Objective C, the native language for iOS apps, instead of being ported over from the HTML 5 web version like the current app. This and other improvements should make the experience of using Facebook for iPhone suck a lot less.

According to the report, there won't be any major changes to the look of the app, instead, the next version will be all about performance.
