1. Guernica by Pablo Picasso, 1937

Medium: Oil on Canvas

Picasso's Guernica was a response to the German bombing of Guernica, a village in his native Spain, during the Spanish Civil War. This painting is one of his most politically charged masterpieces and eventually became an anti-war symbol. Once completed, Guernica was displayed on tour around the world, and brought attention to the Spanish Civil War.
