LaVar Ball attended the 2017 NBA Draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn with his son Lonzo on Thursday night, and as you would expect, everyone was talking about him during his time there. Shortly after Lonzo was selected with the No. 2 pick by the Lakers, he did an interview with ESPN while wearing a purple and gold Big Baller Brand hat and, as usual, he didn’t hold back as he told the world that he’s been planning for his son to play for the Lakers for almost 20 years now:

LaVar also predicted that the Lakers will make the NBA Playoffs next season now that they have Lonzo running the show at the point guard position:

And the fun didn’t end there! To his credit, LaVar didn’t steal the spotlight from his son by running on stage with him or shadowing him as he did interviews following his selection. Lonzo went off on his own and handled his media obligations while his dad hung back at the table that the Ball family was sitting at when the draft started.

But LaVar didn’t stay there for long. Eventually, LaVar got up from the table and started to make his way out of the Barclays Center. When he did, he got booed by some of the NBA fans in attendance. And he responded by taking his Lakers-themed BBB hat off and throwing it into the crowd as he fed off all the hate fans were sending his way. You can watch him do it here:

According to Darren Rovell, this is the kid who caught the hat:

And apparently, even though there were plenty of LaVar haters in the house, the kid got all kinds of crazy offers for the hat throughout the rest of the night. Bleacher Reporttracked down the fan—a young man named Ami from Stamford, Connecticut—and he first explained how he ended up with the hat.

"When he threw it up, I didn’t even look for it," Ami said. "I just tried to take it with everything I had. I held onto it as tight as I could."

Then, he revealed that, while he is planning on keeping the hat, he could turn a nice profit off it if he wanted. He said people at the draft offered him everything from cold, hard cash to a pair of Yeezys for the limited-edition cap.

"A hundred dollars. A thousand dollars. Yeezys," he said. "It was crazy."

You can read more about the crazy night LaVar and Lonzo had here. The craziest part might be that it’s probably only going to get crazier for the entire Ball family from now on. So Ami might want to hang on to that hat. It could be worth more than just a pair of Yeezys in a few years.
