Earlier today, a beat writer was ejected during the Week 17 matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. Not a player, or fan...a beat writer.
According to Chris Palmer of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Zach Groen, a member of the Eagles media relations team, informed a group of journalists that they were speaking too loudly. While several reporters snapped back at Groen, it is believed that Inquirer beat writer Jeff McLane told him to "shut up." McLane is denying that he said that, and referring to the incident as "a slight argument, but nothing out of the ordinary."
After the initial dispute, McLane and Groen went into another room outside of the press box to talk it out, and returned a couple minutes later. However, 15 minutes after both guys returned to the press box, Anne Gordon, the Eagles' senior vice president of marketing, media, and communications, approached McLane with a team security employee to tell the beat writer that he was being ejected for violating the press box's code of conduct.
Other reporters in the press box have chimed in, and said that McLane did nothing wrong.
