Unless the Knicks somehow manage to win every single game that’s left on their schedule, they’re probably not going to make the NBA Playoffs this season. It’ll be the third straight season that they’ll miss the postseason, and all of the losing that they’ve been doing lately is starting to take a toll on Carmelo Anthony.

Earlier this week, Carmelo got into a heated exchange with a heckler that involved him telling the fan to ask Knicks owner James Dolan for his money back at the end of a game. The following day, the Knicks forced Carmelo to issue an apology, and he was more than happy to tell reporters that it was not his idea. And during a media session this morning, Carmelo talked about how he’s having a hard time dealing with all of the losing the Knicks have been doing, especially since his close friends LeBron James, Chris Paul, and Dwyane Wade continue to have success with their respective teams.

“I don’t think envy is kind of the right word,” he said. “I do look at my peers and say, ‘Damn, what am I doing wrong? I should be there.’ There was one point in time where they were looking at me like that. Made [the playoffs] 10, 11 years straight. Right now, it’s kind of a rough patch for me. I’m trying to figure out a way to get out of it.”

One way out of it might be to seek a trade this summer. Carmelo has a no-trade clause, but he could waive it if a good opportunity presents itself. Otherwise, he’s probably going to be subjected to a lot more losing before things get turned around in New York.
