This Sunday is shaping up to be a big day for Demaryius Thomas. Not only will his team, the Denver Broncos, be playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers for a chance at the AFC Championship Game next weekend, but Thomas could have his mother in attendance, watching him play in person for the first time in his life. "That's what we're working on," Thomas told The Denver Post. "Hopefully. That's the goal."

In 1999, when Thomas was 11 years old, his mother Katrina Smith, along with his grandmother Minnie Pearl Thomas, were arrested for drug trafficking. Katrina was given more than 24 years while Minnie was given a life sentence.

After Katrina's sentence was lowered to 20 years, President Barack Obama commuted the sentences of 46 people, who "already served their time and returned to society if they were convicted of the exact same crime today." Demaryius' mom was one of those individuals.

Since being granted clemency, Katrina has been in a halfway house in Georgia and forbidden from traveling until this week. Now, the Broncos wide receiver is trying on getting her to Denver for his team's divisional round showdown. "It'd mean a lot," he said. "It'd be her first game. I know she'd be excited. It'd mean a lot for her to see my first game live."
