On Friday night, Brooklyn Nets superfan Mr. Whammy was noticeably absent from his usual spot in the Barclays Center, behind the basket where he tries to distract players on the opposing team when they step to the charity stripe. According to Mr. Whammy, the Cleveland Cavaliers and more specifically, LeBron James is to blame.
Mr. Whammy, a.k.a. Bruce Reznick, a 79-year-old lawyer who has been a Nets season-ticket holder for the last 18 years, told the New York Daily News that NBA security approached him about moving from his seat. After refusing to leave, Barclays' security came over to Reznick. Again, Mr. Whammy wasn't having it. Then, Nets CEO Brett Yormark met with Mr. Whammy halfway through the second quarter, asking him, "Do me a favor, please move back so that NBA security doesn’t throw you out.”
“LeBron is a crybaby. I know it was him that asked the security to make me move," Reznick said. "He doesn’t like that I make him miss. He thinks he’s more powerful than anyone in the NBA.” After the game, James was asked about whether or not he was responsible for making Mr. Whammy move, he reportedly "stared blankly at a reporter" and said, “Next question.”
While all of this sounds crazy, the New York Daily News reports "an official from NBA security at the game confirmed that the Cavaliers complained about Mr. Whammy’s presence so close to the court and asked that he go back to his seat."
