Hailing from Kazakhstan, teenage volleyball star Sabina Altynbekova has recently been gaining attention for a strange reason: she's just too attractive, according to her coach anyway. Said Altynbekova's coach Nurlan Sadikov when discussing a recent match the team played in Taiwan: “It is impossible to work like this. The crowd behaves like there is only one player at the championship.” Reportedly, Taiwanese fans were seen holding Kazakhstan's flag throughout the match in order to express their admiration for the team's young talent.
But is Altynbekova too young for this sort of attention? Various media outlets report that she is only 17 years old while others have reported that she is actually 18. But that ambiguity hasn't stopped a band of followers from circling around the up-and-coming talent. A fan-made video of Altynbekova was published to YouTube on July 22, and has since gained nearly 1.2M views. She currently has over 250K followers on her Instagram.
Even Altynbekova has stated her discomfort with the attention: “I was flattered at first but it’s all getting a little bit much. I want to concentrate on playing volleyball and to be famous for that, not anything else.” Guys, just let the girl play!
What are your thoughts? Is the spotlight too invasive? Or is it inevitable for any pretty face?
