Nearly midway through the first period of today's game between the Dallas Stars and Columbus Blue Jackets, the atmosphere at the American Airlines Arena turned somber when Rich Peverley collapsed on the bench during a line change. Peverley, who underwent a procedure in September after doctors discovered an irregular heartbeat in training camp, was immediately rushed to the back and the game was eventually postponed. Amazingly, after regaining consciousness, Peverley stated that he wanted back in the game. A tough guy, indeed, but your health always comes first.

Following the game, the NHL released the following statement:

“Dallas player Rich Peverley is doing well and is in stable condition. He has has been transported to the hospital. As a result of the emotional state of the players on both teams caused by the medical emergency, the game is being postponed. We apologize for any inconvenience and we thank the fans.”
